What are locking pin backs?

Locking pin backs are specialized fastening mechanisms designed to secure enamel pins, badges, and similar wearable accessories more reliably than standard rubber backs. Unlike traditional clutches that can be accidentally dislodged, locking pin backs feature a metal locking mechanism that helps prevent accidental removal while the pin is being worn.

The mechanism works by lifting a small top metal disk, which releases tension on the pin shaft and allows the clutch to be removed only when intentionally unlocked. This security makes them ideal for valuable pins, collectibles, or items worn in active environments where pins might otherwise shift, snag, or fall off.

Installation:

Slide the pin post into the hole in the locking pin back. Push down firmly until you hear a click. The locking mechanism is now engaged and your pin is secure. The clutch should sit flush against your pin back, or as close as possible (some pins have a small lifted corner near the post that may prevent pin backs from sitting flush).

Removal:

Lift the top metal disk slightly to release the locking mechanism. Once released, gently pull the clutch away from the pin post. No tools needed.
